●Work首先指工作，但不要局限于上班从事的工作，不挣钱干的事也是工作，只要你在干活儿就行。由此产生了“辛苦”“work hard”这一含义，它也可指工作努力。这个词可以具体到操作机器运转“work that machine”的意思。机器需要运转，人的大脑更是这样。有时候，我们会觉得头脑发木，会说“今天我脑子不太好用。”“My brain doesn’t seem to be working well today.”
●不仅是人，其他无生命的物体发挥作用也用这个词表达。比如，药物发挥效用“The medicine works.”；手表坏了“My watch doesn’t work.”；这盏灯亮吗？“Does this light work？”
●如果你不愿意为别人辛苦打工，自己创办事业，就可以用“work”表达。比如，我开了家餐馆“I works a restaurant.”。劳累了一天之后，不少人选择到健身房锻炼一下“work out”。这个词组同时也表示想出解决办法。
