●常言道，人生总有悲欢离合。“leave”一词正适合表达这一情结。平常日子里，为了公事私事而“离家出门”的行为当然不会引起这样的感伤，也许还是一件令人激动的事情。比如，离开家去周游世界“leave home for a tour of the world”。但是这个词往往表达离开家人、朋友四处谋生“leave his family for making a living”，在出发时当然会有离愁别绪涌上心头了。送别的双方都会依依不舍。然而，如果是离家的人主动要走，渴望远走高飞，不惜抛弃自己应负的家庭责任，被动留下来的一方可能就只有“恨”了。此时，仍然用“leave”这个词。所以原因不同，同样一个词，其内在含义会大相径庭。
●有时候，人会主动愿意被留下来，正好可以清静清静，做点事情，可以表达为“leave me alone”，是“别管我或不要管我的事”的意思。身为父母，当孩子无理取闹时，最好让孩子一个人待着“leave the child alone”。千万别去哄。所谓无为而治正是这个道理。当某个事物不能引起你的兴趣时，可以说“leave me cold”。而当你觉得某事远远胜过其他事情时，可以说“leave others standing”。
