●在英语里，不光有生命的物体说话用“say”，其他无生命的物体也可以借用“say”来发表“看法”。比如，“The paper says that there was a terrible plane crash.”报纸报导，有一起可怕的飞机坠毁事故。“it says in the instructions”说明书上说；“the thermometer says”温度计显示；“the sign says”牌子上写着。西方人最爱引述《圣经》上的话，比如“The Bible says，‘love your neighbors’。”，圣经上说“爱你的邻人”。
●其实，除了“说”这个含义，“say”还可以表达“假如”、“例如”、“命令”的意思。此时它会与第一人称“I”、第二人称“You”、第三人称“it”，还有“they”连接组成许多日常生活常用的表达方式。举例如下：
I say 喂，我说……
I'll say （随声附和的说）是的，一点也不错
I dare say 我想；大概，也许
I should say 大概，也许
You don't say （说话时用升调）不会吧，不至于吧；（用降调，表示惊讶、讽刺）真的？
